Recipe: Smoke and Autumn
1 1/2 Ounces of Rootstock Original Hard Cider
1/2 Single Malt Whiskey
3/4 Ounce Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth or Sweet Vermouth
1/2 Ounce Spiced Maple Syrup
1 Cup Pure Maple Syrup
1/2 Cup Warm Water
2 Cinnamon Sticks
6 Whole Allspice Berries
1/2 Ounce of Lemon Juice
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Garnish: dried apple slice lightly dusted with cinnamon
To create the spiced maple syrup: Combine the maple syrup and water in a glass jar or medium container. Break up the cinnamon sticks and lightly toast with the allspice in a small sauté pan over medium heat until just fragrant, then immediately add to the maple mixture. Stir to combine. Let infuse for two days before using. Store refrigerated.
To make the drink: Combine the ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake. Double strain into a coupe-style or wine glass and garnish with the dried apple slice.
